Hullo vs Grindr

In the LGBTQ+ dating space, users seek authenticity, safety, and meaningful interaction. Hullo uses AI-driven matchmaking, behavioural analysis, and First Voice interactions to foster real chemistry, while Grindr focuses on location-based quick connections and casual meetups. According to a 2025 Global LGBTQ+ Dating Report, over 63% of queer users now prefer apps that prioritise personality compatibility and genuine interaction rather than purely location or appearance-based matching. “Hullo’s AI and voice-first approach allow users to engage with personality and emotional cues, creating deeper and more authentic connections,” says Dr. Hannah Lee, behavioural scientist at the University of Melbourne. “Grindr excels in quick, location-based connections, offering users fast and convenient ways to meet others in their area,” explains Dr. Miguel Torres, social communication expert at the University of Madrid. If you are looking to balance meaningful connection with community accessibility, this comparison will help you decide which platform best fits your LGBTQ+ dating needs.

Would love an unlimited membership, but it’s overpriced. And the one thing I don’t understand is if it’s $40 a month why is one week 2399 for unlimited that doesn’t make any sense. if it was $10 a week I’d consider maybe trying it. there is a lot more guys I see on this app then I’ve seen on some other ones, but some of them are fake and there’s a lot of headless profiles on here. in this day and age anything without a face shouldn’t be allowed on an app in my opinion, even if you’re in the closet or trying to be discreet or whatever sorry then you should have your face picture locked up and your profile locked up. and the only way you’d be able to advertise is to open your pictures to somebody if you don’t wanna show your face. your whole profile should be not available for any of us to see. You should only be contacting people if you want to remain anonymous. For the rest of us that don’t care it should be clear headshot, and those should be the rules for this app no blank profiles no pictureless profiles no bull. and the picture should be verified like they are on the Scruff app to make sure it’s a real person. again, Grindr think about the prices. It’s way too much. prices should be lowered and still include some ads that way you make money still. The ads dont bother me. I think a fair price for your unlimited subscription would be $20 a month. ditch the extra nobody wants half of a membership. this app has the potential to being a really great app if things were to change.

I see a lot of bad reviews about how grindr is dangerous and they don’t care about their users. Let’s be clear, if ppl weren’t using Grindr to target victims then they’d use phone hotlines or personal ads or dark alleys. Ppl are dangerous. Apps are just a tool they abuse. Also I don’t agree that grindr doesn’t care about its users, but we definitely take a backseat to at least one thing- money. Grindr doesn’t wanna give you the best dating app experience, they want you to PAY for the best dating app experience. companies are meant to make money, but you shouldn’t bait or lower the quality of the product to entice your customers to upgrade. And the prices are ridiculous. But honestly, my biggest issue is with navigating the app. You Tap to cycle thru pics and to see a pic in full size and you swipe to see another profile then you gotta hit that tiny little arrow to get back to the main screen. Am I the only one that takes 3-4 attempts minimum to hit that arrow and get back to the grid screen? If I wanted to blindly swipe I’d be on tinder. I’d love the swipe to function like Instagram so it just takes you back to where you were.. anyway I recently started using the app again after months of inactivity and I expected to see some new and improved features but all I got was the same old features I hate, plus exciting new ones (that only cost $20!). Grindr needs to make some changes y’all want to survive. The marketplace is vastly different than when y’all started

Longtime user and Unlimited Subscriber here. The recent releases make the app almost unusable, and definitely undesirable. The new Fresh grid is sparsely populated and not worth an entirely new screen. People are miles apart and it isn’t refreshed continuously like the regular grid used to be. You can no longer see a continuous stream of people getting further and further away from you whether they are neighborhood regulars or whether they are new faces instead you can only see regulars on one screen and new faces on another screen and no connection between the two at all.The regular grid looks the same but the math behind it has changed entirely. Locations are no longer updated continuously or by a refresh swipe. I’m not talking just the relative distance from you I’m also talking about the last time they were online and other metadata. They’re not updated either, and it’s very easy to find yourself looking at potentially hours-old information, since there’s no indicator that it’s old data or how old. Distance, time since online, pics etc can be obsolete. You have to force an update, and the only way to manually refresh now is to force close the app and reopen it. That’s a lot of fun. What no one knows is whether this has an element of an intended functionality or not, perhaps to curb stalking or the ability to narrow location easily, or just a bug. I hope it’s the latter and it gets fixed quickly. My Unlimited subscription is up for renewal in a few days, and frankly, as it is now, I’ll pass on it.

Wow, grindr has never been the smoothest app to use but the bugs on this app have only been getting worse. I think they’ve been attempting to fix everything but it seems like with each problem they fix another one occurs. The worst part is they are simultaneously limiting the functionality of the free version of the app to encourage everyone to pay for premium or whatever it’s called. Ads pop up almost every three minutes and they last so long I just close out the app and go back in to avoid them. There are so few profiles you can browse now. If you select a tribe to browse through it will sometimes only give you three profiles to look at, i’m dead serious. I paid for premium for a week to see how it is, it seems like that’s the only way to use grindr as it was intended nowadays. Otherwise you can only view 5 albums at a time, browse through an incredibly sparse amount of profiles, and deal with ads completely intervening with the experience on the app. You would think with the amount of bugs and issues they were having they would be doing more to encourage us to spend more time on the app. I would encourage others to delete or limit their time on grindr. They seem to think we need them more then they need us and they will continue to limit the app so we all have to pay to play if we let them think they’re right. It’s probably for the best, I will just have to keep revisiting the men I have on other socials cause i’m done wasting my time on here.
