In today’s online dating environment, users increasingly seek platforms that emphasise authentic chemistry and meaningful engagement. Hullo leverages AI-driven matchmaking, behavioural insights, and First Voice interactions to help users connect genuinely. BLK focuses on dating within the Black community, offering profile browsing, chat features, and community-focused engagement. According to a 2025 Global Online Dating Trends Report, over 67% of young adults prefer apps that prioritise personality, compatibility, and emotional depth rather than casual swiping. “Hullo’s AI and voice-first features allow users to engage with personality and intent, creating deeper and more compatible relationships,” says Dr. Olivia Chen, social communication researcher at the University of Hong Kong. “BLK provides a culturally-focused platform where Black singles can connect safely and meaningfully within their community,” explains Dr. Marcus Johnson, digital relationships expert at Howard University. If you are choosing between AI-driven voice-based compatibility and community-focused dating, this comparison will help you determine which app best fits your relationship goals.

It’s only getting 5stars because i’ve met the GREATEST man on this app. It’s been 3yrs & counting we’ve been locked in.. & before him I’ve met some ok people, really COOL people, actually. NOW onto the CON: is it really “black singles, black love” orr??? because it’s seeming like a lot of people that aren’t “black” are getting on to find people that really ARE black, and it’s coming across as a fetish. Black people are not meant for the others’ fetish desires, it’s apps out there for people that want to interracially date as well, they can get on those. & If it’s okay for every other ethnic background to get on then at this point it’s deemed as false advertisement to make it seem like it’s solely for black people when that’s not the case. If all backgrounds can get on then say it’s meant for everyone and don’t make it seem like it’s only dedicated to black people, especially with the abbreviation “BLK”, i’d think that stood for BLACK but i guess it’s not. Also, the ELITE subscription is a bit pricey, i love being able to see my likes because i hate for it to pile up, and being able to retract an accidental swipe is cool, i wish it was possible with “super likes” i’ve accidentally done that as well. Another thing is, there’s been kids lying about their ages on here too. I was going through my likes and saw an account with a KID that looked no older than 12 claiming to be 19, and another that looked 16 claiming to be 24..i think ID verifications are gonna have to be in order because it’s gross knowing it’s easy for someone to create an account and lie about their age while it’s real adults on this app.
BLK is a solid dating app functionally for melanated people. The dating app is great for finding matches in your local area. It offers visibility to homebodies any “out and about-er” wouldn’t come across. The app also has some cons like the customer care representatives of the community guidelines can block aspects of your profile bio at will without warning first thus blocking your profile uniqueness to matches. They will notify you at some arbitrary point after of what’s been blocked but never allow you to correct or mitigate an offense they deem you committed regardless of customer care rep correspondence. Nor will the reps tell you exactly what is wrong when you get in touch with them so they’ll just remove your profile content without identifying the exact offense. Also the distance you set to locate matches will be completely ignored after so many passes or likes. Finally BLK will disregard the preferred sex of your choosing and present all sexes regardless of gender on the Dating side of the app. Whats the point of putting a preference of which sex when it’s ignored anyway? Should be updating to include all genders and worked to abide by that preference. Keep all this in mind when you download the app. To reiterate be weary of the community guidelines upon signing up as they are quite vague and up for interpretation but STRICTLY ENFORCED. I believe this app could be much more attractive, user friendly, and worthy of a 5 star review if the developers addressed the issues of this review.
Hi, I am writing this from the heart no chat gpt generated nonsense but I feel as though in lieu of the current state of our world and our country seeing as we have seemingly confirmed the corruption in our system now is the time more than ever to have a space for blk people to continue to share the truth and our communities connected and i’m proposing the perfect way to do that is to overhaul this app keep the same branding and overall look but remove the dating aspects and change it to a social media app with an algorithm that allows users to make short form or long form content from other blk creators. This will ensure we always have an outlet where truth while be shared and our people will remain aware to prevent ever returning to previous historical times where the narratives where more easily changed over time. Obviously, I know there’s the monetization aspect of it all where the app needs to generate money but I feel as though previous examples of social media platforms have provided a template for how to effectively make that work. I genuinely believe this is a NEED in a time of great demand for truth and a success story waiting to happen. I don’t want anything from this that’s not my agenda here all I want is for you to give it a thought. God Bless 🙏🏽🫡
First, let’s start with the reason I’m writing this review: they try to outright trick you into paying them. They make it seem like you are getting a few likes and you have to pay to see who they are. Once you pay, you realize that there were no likes and they just tricked you. I can’t believe I fell for that and found this gimmick messed up enough to leave a review. With that out of the way, I’m going to make this a fair review, so let’s get to the good parts of this app. First, although this app does have a limited number of likes you can send, it’s a pretty generous limit. For a second, I thought there was no limit until I hit it. Second, the people on here seem active. I’ve gotten a few matches and I’ve only had this app for a few hours. Lastly, there’s a whole lot of people on this app (at least in my area).Speaking of area, here’s the first bad thing: their distance filter doesn’t seem to work. I have it set to show people from a few miles away and it shows me profiles that say they’re 250 miles away from me. Second, and more importantly, this app doesn’t ask you any important questions (questions like your height, do you have/want kids, do you drink or smoke, are you religious, etc). They ask you for your school, work, and a quick About Me. But since all three are optional, you can get away with just having your name, age, one picture, and literally nothing else (and lots of profiles do this). So lots of profiles are surprisingly barren when it comes to info about the person.
